Remote Access

"We travel quite a distance before we have access to a Health Institution, but I do not need it now". Says this old roof builder to Pilavendran, Health Worker at Kurandipudur, Mettur on 06 January, 2011.
Remote Access
I see expressions of dismay and indifference. But they are expressions with life and scope. It shows only when people like us visit them in their homes and work spot. They do not see the difference in facilities available to them. All they know is there are some places where you can approach to get better in your health.
These remote villages in Mettur are far better than what I had seen ten years ago. Yet they are deficient. Some of them have no schools or medical facilities.
Two such villages were chosen this month for our visit. Kurandipudur and Perumpallam. Their occupation fostering river banks of cauvery, tending to farms and fishing. While one village could sense the need for education and health the other had not either of them.
Visits such as these are far reaching and educative. It is a place where knowledge of comfort comes to stand still. It is a place where living supersedes pain.
